Upcoming PlayStation 5 console exclusive Forspoken is set to launch in January 2023 after a couple of delays. This action adventure from Square Enix and their studio Luminous is also launching on PC too but won't be coming to Xbox Series X|S consoles anytime soon, if ever.
The latest trailer for Forspoken confirms that the game is a console exclusive for PlayStation 5 for at least two years, which means, the Xbox Series X|S version of the game will not be available before January 23, 2025, at the earliest.
Whether or not Forspoken comes to Xbox Series X|S after that date remains to be seen but given that Square Enix didn't care to release Final Fantasy VII Remake on Microsoft's platform once the exclusivity deal with Sony expired, don't get your hopes up for Forspoken. Forspoken is a brand-new IP and not nearly as popular as Final Fantasy so that's even less incentive for Square Enix to port it to Xbox.
The latest Forspoken trailer, which offered a deep dive into magic parkour features at the very end has a thumbnail for the PlayStation 5 exclusivity with a small print at the bottom that states: "*Also available on PC. Not available on other consoles until at least January 23, 2025."
Of course, timed exclusives are nothing new in the games industry and Sony are known to lock many games to their platform for a year or two. The latest example is Silent Hill 2 Remake, which is locked as a console exclusive for PlayStation 5 for a full year.
On the other hand, Xbox also does similar deals but with smaller games. Scorn is one of them, and the upcoming horror Stalker 2 is one of the biggest timed exclusives for Xbox.
All in all, both companies will keep doing these deals in the future, there's no doubt about that - it's just the way that the video games industry is at the moment.
