Arrowhead Game Studio's survival shooter Helldivers 2 has managed to create a lively community over different in-game planets such as the Malevelon Creek. In a recent major order, thousands of players fought all day long to liberate the planet after a previous failed attempt.
This time players were able to liberate Malevelon Creek. In remembrance of this massive community effort, Arrowhead has decided to award players with a free Creek cape. However, this harmless new free reward has seemingly set off a large community war with players threatening to team-kill and kick any player wearing the new cape.
Helldivers 2's new Malevelon Creek cape sparks a community war
Malevelon Creek is one of the most popular planets in Helldivers 2. Termed as "Space Vietnam" thousands of players dropped in to the planet for facing the Automatons.
Shrouded by dense jungle, the Malevelon Creek is a crucial part of Automaton supply line. However, players were unable to liberate it the first time. On April 1, after a long community effort Malevelon Creek was finally liberated. Arrowhead awarded players with an exclusive cape to commemorate the event.
However, a group of frustrated players turned to different social media sites with their open threats of killing and kicking any player wearing the cape. This group of players are angry on Malevelon Creek fighters or Creekers for wasting away resources and ignoring other planets.
While players were having harmless fun during their time in Malevelon Creek, a small portion of players became agitated with the prospect of these players ignoring other planets. However, as a live-service game players have the freedom to play anything or any mode they want.
Most players on different forums and threads on different Helldivers 2 social media accounts have agreed on the same issue by condemning the whole aspect of team killing or kicking a player for simply wearing a free cosmetic provided by the developers. Although there have been no reports of the widespread effect of this simple disagreement, its good to see players actually defend this harmless issue delicately.
