Blizzard have unveiled the next expansion for the popular trading card game Hearthstone, and it takes players to fabled college of magic, the Scholomance Academy
"On behalf of Headmaster Kel’Thuzad and the rest of our faculty, we’re thrilled to welcome you to Scholomance Academy, the fabled college of magic (and the title and setting for the newest Hearthstone expansion) where knowledge is power, students are brimming with magical potential, and rumors abound of vile things lurking beneath the school grounds", the dev wrote.
Hearthstone: Scholomance Academy is slated for launch in early August and brings a total of 135 brand new cards. Of course, it's the quality, not quantity that will set them apart, and Blizzard's team once again spiced it up with new gimmicks.
Dual Class cards make up for 40 of the 135 cards coming with Hearthstone: Scholomance Academy, and they're self-explanatory to an extent. A marriage of two classes that uses unique mechanics inspired by both, where every combination has a Legendary minion, i.e. the course professor.
The following combos are available:
- Hunter/Demon Hunter
- Demon Hunter/Warlock
Next up is Spellburst, which is Scholomance Academy's one-time effect that will love spellcasters. As you can see from the examples below, using a spell with Spellburst minions in play opens up a bunch of new avenues.
Blizzard also posted the roadmap, reminding that Hearthstone: Scholomance Academy will mark the start of the second phase of the Year of the Phoenix.
Players can look forward to a content-filled period from now to the next expansion, and that's in addition to the new game mode, which is on its way. The team promised "several major updates", which includes balance patches, new Battlegrounds Heroes and minions, a seasonal event and a new solo experience and Battlegrounds feature.
