An all-new Mafia project is in the works at Hangar 13, the studio announced today. The new game is still a few years away though.
After many leaks and rumours, Mafia 3 developer Hangar 13 have shared big news today, confirming that a brand new Mafia game is currently in development. In a 20th Mafia anniversary developer interview on their official website , Hangar said that they have stared work on an all-new Mafia project, which is still years away.
The studio did not share anything more since the game is still early in development but they shared their excitement to keep working on the franchise once more.
"I'm happy to confirm we've started work on an all-new Mafia project!" said General Manager Roman Hladik. "While it's a few years away and we can't share anything more right now, we're really excited to keep working on this beloved franchise and to entertain our players with new stories."
Previous leaks and rumours revealed that the next Mafia game could be set in Las Vegas and follow a dirty cop named Hain who gets involved with a criminal organisation early in the game. More recent reports state that the game will be using Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5.
Furthermore, various job listings suggested that Hangar 13's next game will be a third-person shooter set in a vast open world. Though, keep in mind that the California-based studio have a couple of projects in the works, one of them being a sci-fi title, while the other one is the confirmed Mafia game.
All in all, now that a brand new Mafia game is confirmed to be in the works, we can only sit patiently and wait for the news and the reveal trailer, both of which will hopefully come in the next year.
Hangar 13 will certainly be eager to make the best possible game after the not-so-great Mafia 3 so fingers crossed that the team manage to pull it off.
