Mafia: Definitive Edition is looking sharper by the day, and following a recent deep dive, we now have confirmation that the game will be supported via backwards compatibility on the next generation of console hardware.
In a thoroughly engaging interview with the wonderfully affable Ryan McCaffrey from IGN, Haden Blackman (President and Chief Creative Officer at Hangar 13) confirmed that Mafia: Definitive Edition will be accessible on PS5 and Xbox Series X via their respective backwards compatibility options.
However, he stopped short of confirming a full blown next gen upgrade, or any kind of Smart Delivery support, stating that "there’s nothing we can talk about right now... It’s definitely something we’re looking at.”
After a short delay, Mafia: Definitive Edition is now due to drop in September. It's a much more extensive remake than first meets the eye, with motion captured cutscenes and a whole mess of new narrative content, alongside the more obvious visual upgrades.
It's also worth noting that developer Hangar 13 are currently staffing up, leading to speculation that they're working on the next title in the franchise.
Mafia: Definitive Edition launches on September 25th, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
