Guild Wars 2 players can finally swap Tyria's landlocked adventures for seaside sorcery with today's launch of Visions of Eternity, the MMORPG's sixth expansion. ArenaNet's latest content drop transports players to Castora, a mysterious island packed with experimental magic, dodgy research scientists, and presumably excellent fish and chips.
What's New in Visions of Eternity
The €24.99 expansion immediately unlocks two explorable maps—Shipwreck Strand and Starlit Weald—with additional regions planned for future updates. Players can expect the usual Guild Wars 2 formula of no subscription fees and horizontal progression, meaning you won't need to remortgage your homestead to keep playing.
Each of the game's nine professions receives fresh elite specialisations, expanding build diversity for players who've exhausted their current theorycrafting spreadsheets. The real star, however, is the revamped Skimmer mount, which now fires projectiles and uses sonar-like abilities to detect underwater treasures and threats. Finally, your graceful aquatic companion can actually fight back instead of just looking pretty.
Homesteads Get a Beachfront Upgrade
Decorating fans will appreciate the new homestead plot, transforming shipwreck ruins into a customisable beachside paradise. Players can share homestead layouts with friends, letting mates instantly tour your interior design genius—or judge your questionable furniture choices.
The expansion's narrative follows rumours of Castora's magical abundance, naturally attracting the Inquest, Guild Wars' resident troublemakers who treat "don't touch that dangerous magical artifact" as more of a suggestion than a rule. Players must reach the island before these asuran researchers cause their inevitable catastrophic mess.
Content Roadmap Through 2026
ArenaNet promises free additional content throughout 2026, including new raid encounters for 10-player groups, legendary weapons and accessories, and quality-of-life improvements. The expansion launches with one legendary weapon and aquabreather, with legendary rings and accessories following later.
Game Director Josh Davis emphasised this marks Guild Wars 2's first truly unexplored Tyrian location, giving the development team freedom to experiment with aquatic gameplay and thematic homestead options without contradicting established lore.
Visions of Eternity is available now on Steam and the official Guild Wars 2 website for €24.99.
