Ghost of Yotei, a new action-adventure game, has released a new trailer showcasing the inclusion of firearms

Ghost of Yotei’s latest gameplay trailer highlights the addition of firearms, giving players a deadly but risky new option in combat. The highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima launches October 2.

Ghost of Yotei, a new action-adventure game, has released a new trailer. Unlike past trailers, which have primarily been fixated on Atsu’s conventional arms, such as the Yari and Kusarigama, this new reveal is a first look at the inclusion of firearms within Ghost of Yotei. Slated for release on October 2, Ghost of Yotei is the follow-up to 2020’s award-winning Ghost of Tsushima, and it aims to deepen the combat system and broaden the storytelling scope, allowing players to experience a more violent and vengeful story from start to finish.

In the new trailer, Ghost of Yotei teases several more gameplay mechanics. As Yotei is set 329 years after Ghost of Tsushima, we must presume that Atsu, the player-character, will face new circumstances on the battlefield, as her katana is no longer enough to deal out vengeance and the six enemies she has sworn to hunt: the Yotei Six.

As the Ghost of Yotei, she is a mercenary who seeks vengeance on the Yotei Six, after they murdered her family. This requires a balance of stealth and savagery from the Ghost, which is symbolically strengthened through the introduction of firearms — while effective, they also possess unique risks attached.

The Latest Ghost of Yotei Footage Shows The Addition of Guns

The most significant aspect of the gameplay footage is that it demonstrates the role firearms will play in combat. As Ghost of Yotei is still strongly rooted in its stealth mechanics, these new weapons won’t be used for an open-all-guns-blast approach. Guns in Ghost of Yotei’s arsenal are brutally overpowered; as one can tell from the clip, a single shot can easily kill most enemies.

Yet, they do not go easily. Pulling the trigger will attract the attention of anyone near, so players will have to be strategic in their use.The most striking detail from the video is also one of the more realistic features.

Guns have a reload time, which is significant when compared to the lightning-fast katana. Attempting to reload while being targeted by enemies is obviously a death sentence for Atsu.

The player will have to stun or separate from their foes before being able to reload. That dynamic creates an interesting resource management mechanic, which will hopefully not be abused.

Ghost of Yotei Is a Logical Continuation of the Story

In terms of story, Ghost of Yotei seems to follow the events of the first game. The narrative expands on the series’ take on the historical events of that time, and Atsu is once again a fleshed-out and compelling character.

It is easy to see that her actions and mindset were changed by the events of the first game. Ghost of Yotei’s aesthetic changes and the addition of firearms feel like a natural continuation of the story. It could be said to parallel Atsu’s inner conflict.

While she is now motivated by the need to avenge her family, her primary abilities of stealth and precision are the same as before.
