Gears of War series developer The Coalition are switching to Unreal Engine 5 and have multiple new projects in development for the coming years. The studio said they won't be announcing any for some time, though.
One of the biggest Xbox Game Studios is making a switch to Unreal Engine 5 from Unreal Engine 4. The Coalition announced the news via their official channels, stating that they want to deliver the best possible Gears of War games and therefore, they will be using the latest, cutting-edge tools such as UE 5.
"As we look to future games, we're excited to start shifting our resources to next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5. Gears of War has always been at the front of Unreal Engine development – as a breakout 720p title for Xbox 360 through last year's 120FPS multiplayer update for Xbox Series X|S – and we're excited to continue that tradition by developing on UE5 for multiple new projects in the coming years," The Coalition announced.
As you can see, the team also confirmed that they have multiple new projects in the works, which fuels the rumours about The Mandalorian game , which surfaced recently via Xbox insider Nick Baker aka Shpeshal Ed.
The team also stated that they won't be announcing any new projects or titles for some time since shifting to a new engine is a big undertaking and requires time, so, stay patient Gears fans.
