Fans of Gears 5 who haven't made it to The Coalition's tech test need not curse their luck as the dev announced that the game's multiplayer tech test will be free to all Xbox Live Gold subscribers this weekend for Xbox One and PC.
Gears 5's tech test officially starts on 26 July 2019, 10am PDT / 6pm BST, so if you haven't preordered the game but do have Xbox Live Gold, then Microsoft's Live Free Play Days event is your saviour.
"COG hopefuls who are new to the Gears 5 fight can enlist in the Boot Camp training mode and then jump right into Arcade, the new game type designed for over-the-top fun", The Coalition wrote.
Those who took part in Gears 5's earlier tech test are advised to check out King of the Hil, the updated competitive game type Escalation and keep up with the Tour of Duty challenges, which can earn you some nice reward.
To make matters even more enticing, Gears 5 developer threw in the Wreath Bloodspray reward, which you can earn by completing a single tech test match from 5:30-6:30pm PDT, which means that Brits need to be up from 1:30-2:30am BST to get it.
The Coalition said that the Gears 5 tech test is already available for download, but the servers will remain offline until the test starts.
Also, the dev also told console players that online multiplayer requires Xbox Live Gold for Xbox Game Pass, and that the nature of the test may mean some queueing, since they'll be testing the servers and all.
In related news, Gears 5 developer confirmed that in spite of their love for the mode, battle royale will not be making its way to the game, at least not at launch.
Note that The Coalition refused to dismiss the possibility entirely, but they insist that succefully cramming more intimate gameplay from Gears 5 into battle royale is something that would need much more focus.
