After realising that the company's social media channels have been communicating a wrong end date for the 14 Days of Fortnite event, Epic announced free Equalizer Glider gifts but now they feel as if it was not good enough of a solution.
That doesn't mean they're backpedalling on the freebie - anyone who's completed at least a day of Fortnite's 14 Days event is still eligible for their free Equalizer Glider. Ultimately though, Epic "did not feel the Equalizer Glider compensation was the right approach", basically allowing us to have our cosmetics and eat it. Sort of.
"After further discussion, we've decided to bring back this event early next week through January 15 at 3 AM ET (0800 UTC)", Epic wrote in the announcement. They also announced that some of the popular limited time modes featured in Fortnite's event will also be enabled in the time frame.
Al the 14 Days of Fortnite challenges will be there for the duration of the event, so that players can earn any reward they might've missed, be it their or Epic's fault. Note however that partially completed challenges will have to be reset.
Now, we could be wrong here, but we're pretty certain Epic's mistake didn't really cost players much, especially since proper Fortnite fanatics get most of their info from inside the game, rather than from social networks. Nevertheless, Sweeney and Co took the issue so seriously you'd think they broke something.
This is no criticism mind you, quite the contrary. If you think about it, it's exactly this uncompromising, meticulous approach that took a silly little mishmash of cartoony assets to the absolute top of the world in less than a year. Epic launched Fortnite on all remotely relevant gaming platforms, snubbed Google 's Play Store for own distribution model, talked Sony into allowing cross-play , opened their own store, and that's just the non-monetary highlights.
Epic Games Fortnite: Battle Royale
In contrast, Fortnite's main competitor of old seems to be heading in the exact opposite direction, and it's questionable whether they can even hold their ground against Fortnite iOS nowadays.
