Today, Epic Games Store released the latest addition to their 2025 mystery giveaway event, unlocking December 26’s mystery gift as We Were Here Together.
With the new addition, the Epic Store has now unlocked the 10th title in its 17-game giveaway this year, while there are seven more mystery games left to unlock before the event wraps up.
The new addition brings a diverse assortment of games already acquired from the event so far, following previous reveals like Disco Elysium and The Callisto Protocol, while some of the earlier titles unlocked by the event include Bloodstained, Paradise Killer, and Blood West, among others.
Communication comes first in co-op
We Were Here Together is a game designed to be played together. There’s no single-player mode in this puzzle adventure game. The puzzles, story and actions of both characters are designed to be experienced only with one other person through two-player co-op.
We Were Here Together stars two players in the role of explorers who set out together to investigate a flare they’ve spotted in the distance. After trekking out from their research outpost and across the glaciers, they eventually make it to the castle where they must investigate.
Inside, the pair split up and must work together to solve puzzles in different areas of the castle. To make it all possible, We Were Here Together gives each player a walkie-talkie so that voice communication can be had. This means that the two players can’t just use text or single letters to communicate; they have to speak to each other directly to get through the puzzles.
Puzzle-solving in isolated environments
The game’s structure is often compared to a digital escape room, with locations filled with environmental puzzles, hidden mechanisms, and subtle clues.
Areas include:
- The Antarctic expedition base camp
- Frozen valleys and outdoor routes
- The interior of Castle Rock
Castle Rock itself is portrayed as a hostile and unsettling place, gradually revealing a darker history as players move deeper inside.
