Dead by Daylight was released in June 2016 for PC and the console ports followed a year later, in June 2017. The game has sold over 3 million copies and was a success for both Starbreeze Studios and Behaviour Interactive. This prompted a continued support for the game, and over the course of two years it has received 8 new survivors, 8 new killers and 11 new maps set in 8 different locations.
New features such as ''survive with friends'' were also added, based on player feedback. The game also had seasonal events and localization introduced.
Now, with the game being a success for Behaviour Interactive, the studio has bought the publishing rights from Starbreeze and expanded from 30 to 75 developers. Their eyes are now set on improving Dead by Daylight further by adding even more content.

Their roadmap for 2018 includes adding another 4 survivors, killers and maps each. Progression system will be overhauled, in order to let players unlock non-licensed survivors and killers by playing actively. This may turn out to be a grind fest, as the direction for Year 3 seems to emphasise more monetisation.
That said, the only new paid content Behaviour have announced are cosmetic items that won't impact the gameplay and most of them are unlockable by just playing the game ''whether you play a lot or more casually''.
Sure, post launch revenue has become a standard in today's gaming industry but at least it doesn't sound like Behaviour will make the game pay to win.

There is a new ranking system in the works as well, one that is supposed to be a ''more inclusive and more more rewarding progress''. Deployment of new content will now first go through PTB server in order to test it. More work on anti-cheating has also been confirmed and a tutorial mode will be added.
Seasonal events will continue throughout Year 3 and mid-chapter patches will be present in order to polish the content the game deploys.
