According to the latest report from Superdata, CD Projekt Red's RPG Cyberpunk 2077 had the biggest game launch of all time based on digital revenue and digital sold units.
Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the biggest marketing campaigns we ever witnessed in the gaming industry and it looks like CD Projekt Red spent that money well, since the game's pre-order numbers and sales are record-breaking, despite all the issues.
The company Superdata have released a brand new market report, where they reveal that Cyberpunk 2077 had the biggest game launch of all time based on digital revenue and digital units sold.
"A successful marketing campaign and the reputation of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt provided the hype necessary for the CD Projekt Red title to break records despite issues including performance problems on consoles, widespread glitches and the indefinite removal of the game from the PlayStation Store," the report states. "Cyberpunk 2077 had the biggest game launch of all time based on digital revenue and digital units sold."
Superdata research also finds that an extremely high share of digital sales were on PC platform, at least 80 per cent, which is probably a result of delisting on PlayStation and overall state of the game on consoles.
Despite this success, it seems CD Projekt Red have burnt many bridges and will have to work hard and invest significant resources fixing the game in order to continue selling Cyberpunk 2077 in record-breaking numbers and to rehabilitate their image, before the launch of there next game.
