Bluepoint Games have changed their Twitter description stating that they are a self-funded and fully independent studio. The devs made this change in the wake of Sony acquisition rumours
You've probably noticed that the developer of Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes, Bluepoint Games, have been all over gaming news lately, all thanks to one small mistake by the PlayStation Japan Twitter account.
In case you are not familiar with the matter, earlier this week, Sony announced the acquisition of Returnal developer Housemarque. But instead of using the logo of Housemarque to announce the acquisition, PlayStation Japan mistakenly added the logo of Bluepoint Games, which started an avalanche of speculation that Bluepoint acquisition will be announced soon.
Bluepoint certainly seem like one of the more realistic candidates to join PlayStation Studios given that they have worked exclusively with Sony for several years now but it seems the studio want to make it clear they are still pretty much independent.
They've added a short description in their Twitter bio , reiterating that they are "a fully independent self-funded studio". Whether Bluepoint are upset with the acquisition talk or simply want to set things straight to clear up any potential confusion, it's not certain at the moment. It's safe to say, though, that the timing of the bio update is quite interesting.
All in all, we'll keep an eye on this situation in the coming months and await any potential rumours or news regarding the acquisition. We doubt Sony would announce two major acquisitions in such a short time frame but who knows, perhaps they want the spotlight back on PlayStation Studios after the Xbox's Bethesda acquisition bombshell.
