Battlefield 2042 Portal seems to be the standout feature of DICE's new shooter. Interestingly, it seems this mode was developed in a very short time span.

Early impressions from content creators suggest that Battlefield 2042 Portal is arguably the game's biggest feature. In case you are not familiar with Portal, it basically allows players to create their own Battlefield experience in various ways.

For example, you can choose to play on Battlefield Bad Company maps but with WW2 weapons and vehicles or set up a knife vs defibrillator Conquest match on the Caspian Border map. Sounds pretty crazy, right?

You would probably think that the development of such a complex system took EA and DICE many years but actually, the truth is quite different. According to Julian Manolov, the engineer of Battlefield Portal at Ripple Effect aka DICE LA, Battlefield Portal was developed in just a year and a couple of months.

When asked when they started working on Battlefield Portal, Manolov said the following on Twitter

"About a year plus a few months ago when we joined. COVID work from home had already started. So it is entirely built from home from the idea to implementation. Lots of hard work and everyone in our studio did amazing"

While we don't have the exact number of developers that worked on Battlefield Portal, this is still an impressive feat since game development takes time, especially if you're creating something so complex and feature-rich like Battlefield Portal.

We are hopeful that EA and DICE will keep expanding this mode in the future as it seems that players are really enjoying it at the moment.
