Assassin's Creed Codename Red, Ubisoft's upcoming big AAA Assassin's Creed game akin to Odyssey and Valhalla in scope, may not have a strong focus on the fantasy elements like its predecessors.
According to an alleged tester who got to play the game at some point during the development, Ubisoft's plan was to tone down the fantasy elements and make the game more "down to earth".
Sadly, that's the only bit of detail we got regarding Ubisoft's alleged plans to get rid of the fantasy stuff. The leaker did not elaborate on whether the game will get rid of the fantasy part completely or whether some minor stuff will remain.
Assassin's Creed Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed Valhalla both featured heavily fantasy themes, especially in their post-launch DLCs. It's certainly interesting that Ubisoft plan to stop with fantasy elements now when they are taking the game to Japan, a country with such a rich mythology.
I'm certainly not complaining as fantasy and modern-day elements were never really that appealing to me and I'm glad Ubisoft is taking a different approach if that's truly what they're doing.
In addition, the leaker states that the parkour in the game is very similar to Unity with various opportunities to climb roofs and traverse without ever touching the ground but you won't be able to grab to every point, like in previous games, which will surely add more depth to the climbing and parkour.
There's also base building in some form and once again, the game will feature two playable protagonists, a male and a female. The leaker stated that Ubisoft are targeting the Autumn 2024 release date but that is not set in stone just yet.
Assassin's Creed is expected to be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is no release date at the moment but Ubisoft said previously to expect the game before Q2 2025.
