First look at Assassin's Creed Odyssey through leaked screenshots

First Assassin's Creed Odyssey screenshots have been leaked and they offer unique insight in Ubisoft's upcoming secret war simulator - the main character does not have the signature hood design worn by previous protagonists in the series.

Gematsu has discovered some previously unseen screenshots from Assassin's Creed Odyssey hidden in the files of the German retail site GamePro.de. The screenshots show several aspects of the game, such as the skill progression, dialogue, locations on the map, inventory system, boats and more.

At first glance, it appears that Ubisoft are aiming to fuse together two of the most successful revitalisers of the series - Black Flag and Origins. Combat, interface and progression seem to be almost entirely the same as those found in Origins. Naval combat and travel is, of course, the signature of Assassin's Creed Black Flag.

The setting in the Ancient Greece seems to be as beautiful as one might expect, or at least it does from the select screenshots on Gematsu, but the geographical location of the place also made it perfect for naval exploration. One thing that Assassin's Creed Odyssey won't take from its predecessors is the iconic hood, unless the player actually crafts and equips it. 

This is probably because the players will take control of a Spartan mercenary on his path to becoming a Spartan hero, and Ubisoft recognised it would be a shame not to give Leonidas' helmet a spin. It is currently unknown if players will be able to toggle on or off the hoods like they could with Bayek though.

We had a theory that the protagonist could even be Odysseus due to all the sailing exploration and striving to become a hero but the put an end to it, as it clearly states that the protagonist is Spartan. Meanwhile, Odysseus was the king of Ithaca.

A screenshot of the in-game map shows many of the islands surrounding Greece and the player was on Mykonos at the moment of taking the picture. Naturally, Delos is right next to it, but the map also shows many more islands. It could be a hint that the map exploration will be present and we would get to see many, if not all of Greece's islands.
