Swedish indie studio Wishfully has opened up about the passion behind their upcoming sequel, describing Planet of Lana II: Children of the Leaf as a "love letter" to classic Studio Ghibli adventures ahead of its 5 March release.
"We poured our hearts into the hand-painted horizons of Planet of Lana II, our love letter to the sweeping scales and quiet wonder of classic Ghibli adventures," the studio said. "A new odyssey of friendship and mystery awaits."
The cinematic puzzle-platformer sequel launches in just under three weeks for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC, bringing players back to the planet Novo for another dialogue-free adventure with Lana and her companion Mui.
Wishfully, founded in 2018 by Adam Stjärnljus and Maria Brunsson, has nearly doubled the game's length compared to the 2023 original, with the sequel offering a six-to-eight-hour journey. Game director Stjärnljus previously stated the team "learnt so much from the development of the first Planet of Lana and used that to improve on every aspect of the game."
The sequel features an older, more capable Lana with improved movement abilities, including wall jumps and smoother traversal. Players will explore new environments ranging from snowy mountains to underwater depths, whilst solving physics-based puzzles that emphasise cooperation between Lana and Mui. The companion creature has gained new abilities as well, including the power to transform into different forms and pilot machines.
A free demo is still available right now on PC. The full game releases on 5 March 2026 and will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
