Arc Raiders has received update 1.4.0, and it's bad news if you've been relying on exploits to gain advantages. Embark Studios has patched the gun quick swap technique - colloquially known as "double pumping" - whilst simultaneously blocking glitch access to locked rooms across all maps. The update is live now on all platforms.
Gun Swap Exploit Finally Fixed
The most significant change removes the quick swap exploit that let players fire weapons faster than intended. By swapping to a quick-use item and back to their gun, players could bypass normal fire rate limitations, essentially turning slow weapons into rapid-fire death machines. It was particularly devastating with shotguns like the Il Toro, where double pumping transformed balanced weapons into absurdly overpowered tools.
Embark's taken long enough to address it; the exploit has been common knowledge in the community for weeks. Better late than never, though the delay suggests either technical complexity or prioritisation issues on the development end.
Locked Room Exploits Patched
Update 1.4.0 implements "exploit mitigation mechanisms" for all locked rooms across every map, which is corporate speak for "we've blocked the glitch spots." Previously, players discovered methods to clip through doors and access locked rooms without proper keys or clearance, grabbing high-tier loot without the intended risk or challenge.
Spaceport's Control Tower locked room received specific attention, with its exterior access point completely blocked. Whether Embark has genuinely solved the underlying geometry issues or simply band-aided the most obvious exploit locations remains to be seen. Determined players always find new ways through unintended gaps.
Quality of Life Fixes
Beyond exploit removal, patch 1.4.0 addresses several annoying bugs. Low-resolution textures that sometimes plagued the main menu are fixed, lighting artefacts upon entering maps have been resolved, and players can no longer push each other by jumping on backs, which was either hilarious or infuriating depending on whether you were doing the pushing or getting launched off cliffs.
The Raider Voice setting now correctly persists after restarting the game, saving players from repeatedly adjusting audio options every session. Small fix, but the kind of quality-of-life improvement that stops minor irritations from becoming major frustrations.
What's Missing
Notably absent from patch 1.4.0: weapon balancing beyond exploit removal, or new content additions. This is purely a maintenance update targeting exploits and bugs rather than expanding gameplay or addressing broader balance concerns.
Update 1.4.0 is available now across all platforms. Restart your client to begin downloading the patch.
