Apex Legends has been continuously evolving, and its ranked system is no exception. Season 19, titled Ignite, is set to introduce several significant changes, including the innovative "Promotional Trials." Let's dive into the details and simplify these changes for you.
In previous seasons, progressing from one rank to another was solely based on LP, but that's changing. With Respawn adding the Promotional Trials, you'll have to prove your worth to climb the ranks.
If, for example, you have 10,800 LP and gain 200 or more LP, you won't instantly advance to the next rank. Instead, you'll reach 10,999 LP and must pass Promotional Trials to proceed.
Promotional Trials
Promotional Trials come with specific conditions tailored to each rank. You have five chances to complete these trials without gaining or losing LP. If you fail to pass, LP loss awaits you after the 5th match.
The amount of LP you lose depends on your performance during these matches. Here's a breakdown of the trial conditions:
Trial Tier: Rookie → Bronze
- Main Condition: Win a game
- Alternative Condition (During the Trial):
- Achieve 3x Top 10 placements
- Get 3 Kills/Assists
Trial Tier: Bronze → Silver
- Main Condition: Win a game
- Alternative Condition (During the Trial):
- Achieve 3x Top 5 placements
- Get 6 Kills/Assists
Trial Tier: Silver → Gold
- Main Condition: Win a game
- Alternative Condition (In 3 different matches, complete both conditions):
- Place Top 10
- Get 3 Kills/Assists
Trial Tier: Gold → Platinum
- Main Condition: Win a game
- Alternative Condition (In 3 different matches, complete both conditions):
- Place Top 5
- Get 6 Kills/Assists
From Platinum onwards, the alternative conditions are removed, and winning a game becomes the sole requirement for promotion. When you succeed in your Promotional Trials, you'll advance with an additional 250 LP, effectively boosting your position.
If you fail the Promotional Trials, you'll receive an extra match for each attempt, up to a maximum of 10 trials. Subsequent losses can result in LP loss.
Ranked Changes
Beyond Promotional Trials, Respawn is fine-tuning the existing ranked system.
Here are the additional changes planned:
- A higher Rating Bonus to help players catch up to their skill bracket.
- A reduction in the bonus withheld, making it easier to climb for those pushing their skill limits.
- Adjusted Provisional Bonuses to align players closer to the expected 1.5 tier drop after their initial 10 provisional games.
- Removal of ranking difference restrictions for 3-stack premades, allowing friends to play together regardless of their rank. However, this comes with the caveat that larger skill differences within the squad will lead to tougher matches.
These changes aim to make the Apex Legends ranked experience more fair and balanced - for all players.
