Apex Legends developers have made a commitment to tackle the problem of "ratting" in future seasons of the game.

In Season 17 of Apex Legends, the issue of "ratting" has emerged as a major problem in Ranked mode, impacting players' experiences.

"Ratting" refers to the tactic of hiding and avoiding engagements in order to secure higher placements and gain LP (previously known as RP).

Respawn Entertainment, the developer of Apex Legends, has acknowledged the problem and promises to tackle it head-on in Season 18.

The Problem of Ratting

  • Ratting, while not a prevalent issue before Season 17, became a common tactic following the ranked changes in the new season.
  • The strategy involves players hiding and avoiding fights to outlast other teams and earn points.

Respawn's Response

  • Respawn has actively listened to player feedback and complaints throughout the season regarding ratting.
  • The Lead Game Designer of Progression acknowledged the problem during an AMA session and emphasized that exploitative play, such as excessive hiding, is not healthy for the game.
  • Respawn aims to make significant changes in Season 18 and future seasons to address the core issues surrounding inactivity and avoidant playstyles.

Eliminating Ratting

  • Respawn's first approach is to remove ratting spots from the maps, which will help prevent players from easily adopting the tactic.
  • The developers have already taken steps to remove certain ratting locations in the most recent update.
  • Another strategy is to adjust Ring damage and timings to encourage more mid-game encounters and force ratting players to resurface early in search of better positioning.

Anticipating the Impact

  • Respawn's efforts to improve the ranking system and counter ratting should result in a more balanced and engaging ranked mode experience.
  • Players can look forward to enjoying a more dynamic and competitive gameplay environment in Season 18 and beyond.
