11 bit studios have today announced their third Frostpunk project but this one won't be a completly new game as many of us expected when the developer recently revealed they are about to announce a new Frostpunk game soon.
Instead, it's a reimaginig of the first Frostpunk game in Unreal Engine 5, with improved graphics, new gameplay mechanics, laws and an enitrely new Purpose path. 11 bit studios say the game will have mod support thanks to Unreal Engine 5, which is one of the features that wasn't possible on the previous engine due to technical limitations.
The development of Frostpunk 1886 started earlier this year while the release date is currently set for 2027. It's a long way to go but we don't have any doubts that 11 bit studios are cooking something special that will be well worth the wait.
There are no confirmed platforms at the moment but we expect to see this one PC, PlayStation and Xbox since Frostpunk 2 also launched across all these platforms.
In the end, the studio added that this game will mark the start of a new era for them, as they are focusing to deliver in-house projects much faster than before.
