Silent Hill 2: The combination lock puzzle

Inside the Blue Creek Apartments area in Silent Hill 2, you'll come across a room full of moths and a hefty lock on the door secured by the combination. In this guide, we will show you how to reveal the correct combination.

One of the greatest strengths of Silent Hill 2, the latest horror adventure from Konami, is without doubt the fantastic puzzles scattered throughout the entire game.

The very intricate one awaits you in the third game's large area called Blue Creek Apartments, more precisely the room hiding behind the "M" sign. Once you gain access here, you'll find a room full of moths with a large combination locked pad.

If solving this puzzle and finding the correct combination is giving you trouble, our guide is here to help you solve it without breaking a sweat.

How to solve the combination lock puzzle (the room with the moths)

Once you gain access to the room behind the "M" sign, you'll be able to inspect the locked door, and next to the lock, you'll see some equations featuring three different signs: one resembling a half moon, one resembling a skull, and the last one that looks like a circle with the dot inside of it.

If you start looking around the room, you'll see several dead moths lying around with the same signs on their wings. Your task will be to count all the signs on the moths you see around and, with the correct numbers of each of them, solve the equations that will lead to the proper combination.

Silent Hill 2: Moths are located in the main room and the hidden one as well

By counting all the moths inside the first room, you'll find six half-moon signs, five circles, and only one skull. However, this number is incorrect because you can find more in the room hidden behind this one. If you go to the kitchen and peek through the hole in the wall, you'll see one more moth with a skull, which now makes two of them.

Well, the number is still incomplete. If you return to the main room, you'll notice that one of the walls is breakable. Break it and squeeze inside the next room. Make your way to the moth with a skull you just saw from the kitchen and move the crate next to it. This will reveal one more moth with two half-moon signs, which makes eight of them in total.

So the correct number of signs is eight half moons, five circles, and two skulls. Now you're ready to do some math. Eight minus five is three, two plus five is seven, and five minus two is three. The correct combination is 3-7-3. Enter these numbers inside the combination pad, hit the execute button, and it will unlock the door. The reward will be the second hand for the clock required for solving the main level's clock puzzle.
