In a game full of explosions and bullets, melee weapons may not be the first thing on the player's mind but if you have a beefcake with high agility, dexterity and especially strength on your team in Jagged Alliance 3, you may want to find the best thing possible for them.
Actually, the weapon is really called The Thing and getting it will take quite a bit of work.
First, you will need to get a mission from Boss Blaubert, who can be found in his mansion in the sector that is neighbouring Fleatown to the south.
If he is unwilling to give you the job, you may need to earn his trust and the best way is to help him with a certain love triangle.
He will task you with getting someone out of The Good Place, which is a poor excuse for a prison. It is located in sector L6, west-southwest of Port Cacao.
You will have to battle through the high number of guards there as well as the warden himself. In order to be able to speak to him, you will need to clear the area of all hostiles. Be especially careful in the main building as the melee guards can easily one-shot your mercs and there isn't much room to run away. There will also be a few stragglers in the yards behind the building so look there if you don't see any enemies at any given time.
Once that's done, talk to the warden and you will have the opportunity to make a deal with him or execute him. If you make a deal with him, he can bring up any prisoner you want, in which case you need to tell him to bring Luigi. If you kill him instead, he can drop an AA-12, a shotgun with burst fire mode.
If you killed the warden, go to the underground sector, which you can enter behind the office. Fight a few more guards and when the area is clear, you can break Luigi out and speak with him and his bodyguard, who mentions something called The Thing. They will then go off to kill Boss Blaubert. Before you leave the prison, listen to what the prisoners are saying and release the ones who sound innocent. This will give you +2 loyalty in various locations for each innocent freed.
Back at Blaubert's place, there is a standoff. Choose to support Blaubert, who will make short work of Luigi, the bodyguard and their prisoner escorts. You can help Blaubert's forces as well. Once they are dead, loot the bodyguard and The Thing will be yours.
It is a machete so it is eligible for cutting down bushes. The Thing also has the best strength scaling in the game so you need someone with a lot of it but remember to bring high dexterity for better precision and high agility for more AP as well.
