In Helldivers 2, as you continue on your quest to spread Democracy throughout the galaxy, you'll face fierce resistance from many factions. Among them, the Terminids are one of the factions you will encounter from the very start of the game.
While each of these factions boasts a diverse array of enemies, each with its own distinct abilities and vulnerabilities,. Learning how to recognise them and knowing their unique weaknesses is key to overcoming them.
That is why we are here with this comprehensive guide, describing every Terminid unit and how to defeat them.
Every Terminid in Helldivers 2 and How to Defeat them
The Terminids, a race of bugs dominating the eastern planets of your galactic domain and pose a significant threat. Comprising of nine distinct enemy types, each with its own specialised capabilities and dangers, they can be challenging to deal with without proper insight.
Below is a detailed breakdown of these enemy varieties, offering insight into the diverse array of threats you'll encounter on your journey to spread democracy.
The Scavengers
Scavengers, the smallest and most common of the Terminids, dominate patrols and breaches. They come in two varieties: standard and Bile Scavengers, the latter capable of launching a ranged acid attack.
While they possess a small health pool and lack armour, their sheer numbers can pose a threat when left unchecked. It's crucial not to underestimate them or let their numbers build up, as they can overwhelm you with substantial damage.
Use stratagems like the Tesla Tower to keep them at bay and to avoid being overrun.
Scavenger Variant: Bile Scavengers
Similarly, Little Spewers, resembling green versions of Scavengers, pose a slightly higher threat due to their ability to slow you down with bio spit. Nevertheless, both enemy types can be swiftly dispatched with a single shot or a well-placed grenade.
The Hunters
Slightly larger than the Scavengers, Hunters are formidable due to their mobility, capable of swiftly leaping and executing deadly melee attacks. They pose a considerable threat, often swarming in abundance and attacking from various directions.
Their agility, showcased through side jumps to evade direct charges, adds to their challenge. You should always prioritise them early to prevent getting overwhelmed. Tactical manoeuvres like Eagle Strikes have proven to be very effective against them.
Hunter Variant: The Pouncers
At medium difficulty levels and higher, the Hunter can also appear as the Pouncer/Hopper variant. Unlike the standard Hunter, this variant is smaller and typically spawns in groups of up to seven.
Their strategy involves surrounding and flanking Helldivers before launching coordinated attacks, posing a significant threat, especially in confined areas with limited escape routes.
To counter them effectively, it's crucial to stick together, cover each other's backs, and remain in open areas with clear lines of sight.
The Warrior
Warriors pose a moderate threat, showcasing average speed, damage, and health. These armoured enemies are the first line of defence. Disarm them by shooting off their armour, then swiftly eliminate them before they reach close proximity.
Dispatching them with a shotgun blast to the face is effective, but remain cautious as they may attempt a final melee attack after losing their head armour.
Warrior Variant: The Hive Guards
The Hive Guard, distinguished by its red coloration compared to the standard brown Warrior, typically guards entrances to Terminid Nests.
Employing different tactics, they utilise heavy front-facing armour to shield themselves from direct fire. To overcome this defence, Helldivers can flank the creature to expose its vulnerable rear, call down an Orbital Strike, or engage it head-on with a weapon with medium armour penetration.
Warrior Variant: Bile Warrior
The Bile Warrior emerges when playing on Challenging difficulty and higher, resembling a miniature version of the Bile Titan. It features a glowing green sac of caustic bile on its underbelly, and although it doesn't spit like its larger counterpart, it explodes upon death. This explosion poses a significant threat to nearby Helldivers, making it imperative to eliminate these enemies from a distance whenever you have a shot.
The Stalkers
Stalkers are large insectoids that possess the ability to turn invisible, adding an extra layer of challenge. To mitigate their threat, prioritise destroying their nest to prevent being overrun.
When faced with a swarm, it's imperative to remain vigilant and actively search for their nesting grounds. Failure to do so can result in being overwhelmed and ultimately eaten alive, as Stalkers are known to be ruthless.
The Bile Spewers
Bile Spewers are formidable adversaries and pose a significant threat with their acid-spitting attacks capable of inflicting one-shot eliminations at close range.
To effectively neutralise them, target their vulnerable spots, aiming for their backs, and maintain sustained fire until they detonate.
Two variations of Bile Spewers exist, each with distinct characteristics. While it may seem intuitive to target their massive backs, focusing fire on their heads proves to be a more efficient strategy, especially for the armoured green variant.
However, given the armoured nature of their heads, employing armour-piercing weaponry such as the Railgun or strategically using grenades will show better results.
Bile Spewer Variant: The Nursing Bile Spewers
The Nursing Bile Spewer, sporting a lighter orange hue, is a variant of the standard Bile Spewer. Predominantly encountered on medium difficulty levels, it boasts slightly less armour and presents a relatively easier target compared to its standard counterpart. Strategies effective against standard Bile Spewers are equally applicable when engaging Nursing Bile Spewers.
The Brood Commanders
Brood Commanders are like an upgraded version of the Warriors. You should eliminate Brood Commanders swiftly, as they possess the ability to summon reinforcements, thereby making them a priority target in large battles.
They are usually accompanied by numerous smaller Terminids. Utilise stratagems for quick neutralisation and wield a Breaker shotgun to effectively target their heads, hastening their defeat. Be cautious even after inflicting initial damage, as Brood Commanders exhibit charging behaviour upon losing their heads, akin to Warriors.
The Chargers
Helldivers often dread encountering Chargers, the massive, armoured bug creatures resembling bulls that charge relentlessly. When facing them, it's crucial to designate one player to distract them while others target the weak spot on their backs.
These creatures pose a significant threat, especially in situations where they swarm in large numbers. Effective strategies include dodging their charges and attacking from behind, utilising orbital strikes, or calling in a Hellpod drop.
For those with the Railgun unlocked, the most efficient tactic is to aim for their leg armour first, then dispatch them with shots from a primary weapon.
Charger Variant: The Behemoths
Behemoths, a formidable variant of Chargers, boast even heavier armor, distinguished by their longer tusks. Encountered primarily in specific missions like Emergency Evacuation or as targets in the Elimination Target Mission, they require potent stratagems for elimination. Effective options include the Orbital Laser, a 500 Kg Bomb, or 2-3 shots from the Quasar Cannon.
The Shriekers
Shriekers, resembling Hunters in appearance, are a rare type of Terminid enemy encountered only near a Shrieker's Nest. These enemies, named for their piercing screams, serve as scouts, alerting nearby foes to the player's presence before swooping in to attack with their sharp claws.
Missions featuring Shrieker Nests present them as optional objectives, and eliminating them is akin to dealing with a standard Terminid Nest. If you spot Shriekers, it's a sure sign that a nest is nearby.
To dispatch Shriekers, Turrets and long-range weaponry are highly effective. Gatling Gun or Machine Gun Sentries, equipped with auto-targeting capabilities, can swiftly eliminate these foes.
Alternatively, you can shoot them down using an Antimaterial Rifle or a primary weapon with medium armour penetration, although their rapid and erratic movements make this task challenging.
The Bile Titans
Bile Titans stand as the largest and most formidable Terminids, presenting a challenge with their powerful melee and ranged attacks. Prior to level 20, employing Strategems and strategic use of Hellpod drops can prove effective against them.
However, beyond level 20, the Railgun serves as an indispensable weapon for swiftly dispatching these colossal foes. It typically takes eight to ten shots to the head with the Railgun to eliminate a Titan. The best choice of action is kiting and eliminating smaller threats before directing focus towards the Titan.
Bonus: Did you know that you can insta-kill a Bile Titan? Yes even a level 1 player can 1 hit ko a Bile Titan.
To do this, simply call down any sort of Hellpod on top of the Bile Titan. For instance: resupply stratagems, weapon stratagems etc.
However, if you want to write your name in the history books or want a Youtube-worthy play, then call in reinforcements on top of the Bile Titan, or better yet, when you are respawning, steer your Hellpod directly on top of the Bile Titan to instantly kill it.
Caution: You or any respawning player will likely get swarmed and die after killing the titan because they are usually surrounded by smaller units.
How to Destroy Terminid Nests?
Nests typically appear as side objectives during missions, although they may occasionally serve as main objectives. When approaching nests, nearby enemies become alerted, and Terminids continuously spawn from these nests until they are destroyed.
These nests are commonly clustered together, with 3–5 nests emitting an orange glow accompanied by billowing smoke.
To close Terminid Nests and stop further enemy spawns, you can toss a grenade down the hole or deploy an Orbital Strike Stratagem directly on top of it. Once successfully destroyed, the nest's orange smoke emission will vanish.
And that wraps up our comprehensive guide detailing each type of Terminid and effective strategies for eliminating them in Helldivers 2.
Dealing with the Terminids can be challenging due to their swarming nature, but understanding their weaknesses is key to overcoming them and ensuring success in your missions to safeguard Super Earth. So happy bug squashing!
