The Spirit was an unofficial incorporation of the main antagonist from the Grudge movies. Behaviour later confirmed that she is a revengeful Japanese spirit called Onryo who entered Dead by Daylight in search of her killer.

Dead by Daylight's Spirit was the first version of Sadako Yamamura who was later added to the game in her own chapter. Behaviour added the Spirit during the Shattered Bloodline chapter and she is said to be a Japanese spirit called Onryo who died a tragic death and set out to get her revenge.

Keeping that in mind, the Spirit has an ability similar to the Nurse but with a bit more control and a bit less mobility. Instead of teleporting or "blinking", the Spirit goes invisible instead and moves at a slightly higher movement speed.

During the execution of her ability, the Spirit cannot see the survivors but can instead hear them and follow their scratch marks so ideally she wants to make as much as possible from it.

Perk Loadout

Agitation

When carrying a survivor, the killer gains 18% increased movement speed and a terror radius increased by 12 metres.

Starstruck

When carrying a survivor, Starstruck activates and all survivors that were in the killer's terror radius during pick-up will suffer from the exposed status effect. The status effect lingers for 30 seconds after leaving the killer's terror radius. After hooking or dropping the carried Survivor, Starstruck deactivates and the status effect persists for 30 seconds for any Survivor inside the killer's terror radius at that moment. Starstruck has a cool-down of 60 seconds once the Survivor is no longer being carried.

Agitation pairs really well with Starstruck, given that Starstruck affects only players inside the terror radius. Additionally, Agitation mixed with Starstruck allows her to snowball and get a few downs in a short period of time.

Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance

At the start of the trial, 4 random hooks are changed into Scourge Hooks, their aura is visible to the killer. The killer starts the trial with 4 tokens, each time a survivor is hooked on a Scourge Hook for the first time, 1 token is consumed and the generator with the most progression explodes and instantly regresses by 25% of its maximum possible progression. All survivors that were repairing that generator will scream, but their location will not be revealed.

Dead Man's Switch

After hooking a survivor, Dead Man's Switch activates for the next 30 seconds. While activated, any Survivor that stops repairing a generator before it is fully repaired causes the Entity to block it until Dead Man's Switch's effect ends. Affected generators are highlighted by a white Aura which is visible to the killer.

Pain Resonance and Dead Man's Switch work perfectly together and allow the Spirit to focus on chases instead of focusing on generator pressure due to the generator pressure already occurring with successful chases.

Add-ons

The ideal add-ons for the Spirit are Rusty Flute (Haunting recharge increased) and Muddy Sports Day Cap (Increased movement speed).
