In the realm of Counter-Strike 2, Valve has elevated its approach by introducing an innovative method of progression. In addition to the standard competitive mode, they've introduced a Premier Queue that operates on an entirely distinct rating system.
Valve has been continuously refining this system since its launch, generating considerable curiosity among players who are eager to comprehend its inner workings.
The update that was rolled out on October 10, 2023, has implemented substantial changes to the Rating System. This patch directly addresses several concerns and criticisms voiced by both professional players and casual gamers.
Rating changes
One of the primary alterations pertains to promotion or demotion games, which now occur at every color boundary, denoting intervals of every 5,000 rating points.
This adjustment was introduced in response to significant criticism. Previously, players were compelled to participate in promotion and demotion games at every 1,000-point interval, resulting in scenarios where a player might have accumulated 7,950 points but still needed to secure two consecutive victories to cross the 8,000 rating threshold.
This new change caps the promotion and demotion games at each color group, which represents intervals of 5,000 points.
However, an alteration that went unmentioned in the patch notes is the introduction of a rating hard cap. Some players encountered this when they failed to accumulate any points beyond 34,999, despite winning several games.
Intriguingly, after the patch's deployment, they even lost 3,000 rating points after winning a game, causing the rating to drop from 37,000 to 34,999.
Valve has refrained from providing any official mention of this change. It might be a temporary solution to expedite queue times for players with high ratings, or Valve may have intentionally imposed a rating limit within the Premier mode.
