Achilles: Legends Untold has a pile of interesting weapons to try out but getting the right two-handed sword at the right time can mean the difference between a challenging game and an overpowered romp through the enemies.
Two greatswords will make the first part of the game much easier and they are both tied to the smith from the main quest.
As such, you should simply follow the main quest steps until the smith returns to his forge and you have the ability to peer into the other realm.
First, it would be wise to visit the smith at the Crumbling Forge and purchase Lion's Roar from him, which will then let you get to Fortress easier, as you do need to go through a dungeon to get it.
Fortress is located at the end of the Ancient Walls dungeon, in a runic chest. To get to the dungeon itself, you will need to reach Mycenae Suburbs in the northeastern part of the map.
Go through the dungeon by beating all the enemies but don't leave through the portal at the end before opening the runic chest.
To open the chest, you need to destroy the three yellow runes nearby by tossing the shield at them. You may have trouble with the one to the left of the bridge leading to the plateau with the chest. To destroy this rune, you may need to backtrack over the bridge until you find a spot where the shield can fly to it uninterrupted.
After the runes are destroyed, loot the chest, get Fortress and steamroll everything in your sight. Just remember to upgrade it from time to time. It scales exceedingly well with Strength so you might want to respec if you invested heavily into Wrath or Precision.
