The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Build Corruption

Vampirism doesn't level up the way Witchcraft or Swordmastery does. Instead of Manuals and Skill Points alone, Coen's vampiric side runs on Corruption - and how you feed decides what you actually unlock.

Corruption is one of the more vampiric systems in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it doesn't work like a normal levelling stat. Corruption rises every time Coen drinks blood, and it's the gate standing between you and the entire Vampirism tree. Where Witchcraft and Swordmastery Perks and Abilities open up through Manuals and Skill Points, The Blood of Dawnwalker ties the entire Vampirism tree to how much blood Coen has actually drunk, so hoarding Skill Points won't get you anywhere on its own.

That makes feeding a build decision rather than just a supernatural necessity. Get it right and Corruption climbs steadily in the background of fights you're already having; ignore it, and the whole Vampirism side of the game stays locked no matter how far you've levelled everything else.

What Corruption Actually Gates

Corruption comes in two separate tracks. Regular Corruption builds from feeding on animal or human blood, and Perks and Abilities locked behind this carry a fanged-mouth icon. A second track builds specifically from drinking Vrakhir blood, and the Abilities requiring this type of blood carry a skull icon instead.

Vampirism Perks sit entirely behind the regular Corruption track, but Abilities can be gated behind either one, so an Ability tied to the Vrakhir track won't budge no matter how much animal or human blood you drink. Every time either track rises, you'll get a "New Vampiric Powers Available" notification, which is your cue to head to a Shrine and see what you can level up.

How to Feed

Coen gets Voracious Bite right at the start of the game, the moment he first turns, and it's worth noting it can't be unequipped from the Abilities Wheel - it's treated as a core mechanic rather than an optional pick, since it doubles as your main way to heal in Vrakhir form.

There are a few ways to put it to use:

  • Mid-combat, biting an enemy feeds you and heals you directly while you fight.
  • On wildlife, hold right-click to enter Focus Mode, target an animal, then press F to trigger Voracious Bite on it. This works outside combat, but it fills Corruption more slowly.
  • Blood vials, picked up through looting and exploration, can be drunk directly and count towards Corruption the same way.
  • Vrakhir blood can also be found while exploring the world or obtained by feeding on Vrakhir enemies.

Human blood, animal blood, and Vrakhir blood all feed the regular Corruption level, but Vrakhir blood is the one that also unlocks the separate skull-marked Abilities, which means it's the only source that unlocks whatever Abilities are gated behind it specifically.

Once you're in Vrakhir form, your current Corruption level shows up next to the Health bar in the bottom-left corner, so there's no need to dig through menus mid-fight to check where you stand.

Best Way to Farm It

If you're building towards Vampirism, clearing enemy camps at night is the most efficient way to stack Corruption. Fighting after dark means you're already in Vrakhir form, so every kill is an opportunity to bite rather than just swing. You're feeding constantly through fights you'd be having anyway, instead of setting time aside to go find animals to drink from.

Clearing Ambrus' Blood Cellars

When you clear Ambrus' Blood Cellars, you'll get a choice between destroying the blood or collecting it. Choose Collect Blood if you're building towards Vampirism.

Coen will collect several Blood Vials from the cellar, giving you an extra source of blood to drink and build Corruption. More importantly, collecting the blood doesn't prevent you from destroying the cellar afterwards. Once you've taken what you need, Coen will still destroy the Blood Cellar, giving you an additional reward for your trouble while also angering Ambrus, one of Brencis' boyars. It's essentially the best of both options.

Hastened Corruption and Overfeeding

Some Vampirism Perks speed up how fast Corruption fills rather than just rewarding you for having it. Hastened Corruption's first level adds +30% Corruption filling speed outright, and its later levels introduce Overfeeding: drinking blood while already at full Health triggers a temporary bonus Health Segment along with a further +50% Corruption filling speed for as long as you stay Overfed.

It's a Perk worth prioritising early if you're committing to a Vampirism build, since it directly shortens how long the rest of the tree takes to open up.

Quick tip: If you're leaning into a Vampirism build, feed opportunistically during combat - biting every enemy on cooldown costs you nothing extra and stacks Corruption far faster than deliberately hunting animals afterwards.
