People don't like strangers going through their belongings, and that's the case in 1666: Amsterdam as well. They apparently feel very differently about cats, and that gap is the entire trick here.

Brewing potions as Noa in 1666: Amsterdam means keeping a steady supply of ingredients on hand, and the only real way to get them is by looting houses, crates, and shelves across Amsterdam. The obvious problem is that homeowners don't take kindly to someone rifling through their things, which normally limits how freely you can loot. There's a workaround the game never explains, built around Aaron and his possession ability, and it turns almost every house in the city into fair game.

Why looting houses is risky on your own

Walking into someone's home as Noa and searching their shelves draws attention fast, and getting caught cuts a looting run short before it's worth much. Ingredients only come from searching containers and other furniture in the houses, so if you want a steady supply for brewing, you need a way into these houses that doesn't involve Noa breaking in herself.

How to use Aaron to get you inside

Switch to Aaron and roam the streets in cat form. Nobody pays attention to where a cat wanders, so no area is genuinely off-limits to him. As you explore, you'll come across people Aaron can hiss at, and when that prompt appears, take it. A few actions later, you'll possess that person, and if they happen to own a house, it becomes marked and accessible on your map.

How to walk Noa straight into a restricted house

Here's the part that does the real work. While possessing someone, you control them directly, so walk them over to Noa and choose the option to walk together. The possessed person takes Noa's hand and leads her straight into their own home without raising any alarm. Once you're inside and out of sight, let go of them and loot everything at your leisure.

Why possessing a thief is the best outcome

Not every possession target is equal. If Aaron gets the chance to possess a thief, take it, since thieves can lockpick almost any door in the city. That said, their picklocks are limited, so don't burn them on doors that aren't worth the trouble. Possessing a thief also lets you loot houses directly through them, without needing Noa present at all, then hand everything over to her once you're done. Between the two tricks, this is by far the fastest way to stock up on brewing materials.

Quick tip: Don't dismiss a possession the moment you're done looting one house. If the person you're controlling is a thief with picklocks left, walk them to another restricted door nearby before letting go, since the possession itself doesn't expire the moment you finish one job.
