Google have officially revealed the internet conection requirements for their games streaming platform Stadia. The recommended minimum is set at 10Mbps while for 4K, 5.1 surround sound and HDR on 60FPS you'll need at least 35Mbps.
During their huge Stadia event today, Google have officially revealed a bunch of new details regarding their games streaming service including the minimum and recommended internet connection for each graphics quality preset.
It's fair to say that the requirements don't look bad at all and Google said that if you're able to stream 4K content on other streaming services like Netflix, you'll be able to run games on Stadia without any issues.
To be able to stream games at the lowest graphical preset, in 720p resolution, Google recommend at least 10Mbps. This internet speed will be enough for 60 FPS and Stereo sound.
For 1080p resolution, 60 FPS, HDR Video and 5.1 Surround sound, you'll need at least 20Mbps. Unfortunately, Google didn't reveal what graphics quality preset is set for this speed, but we assume it's somewhere between high and very high.
Google's absolute recommended internet connection to have is 35Mbps. It will allow users to stream in constant 60 FPS on 4K resolution as well as HDR and 5.1 Surround sound. Keep in mind that you'll need Stadia Pro to use HDR and 5.1 Surround, which is a monthly subscription and it costs $9.99.
Speaking about pricing, Google Stadia will also come in the Founders Edition package that costs $130. It's a hardware starter kit that comes with three months of premium service.
While many are comparing Stadia to Netflix, Google say that their service is not primarily subscription based. Users should expect to buy games that are available on Stadia for full price, not rent or pay a monthly subscription to play them.
Google announced 30 titles that will be available once Stadia launches in November 2019. Some of these include Gearbox's upcoming Borderlands 3, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Odyssey, freshly announced Baldur's Gate 3, and id Software's Wolfenstein: Youngblood.
