During the Xbox fan event XO18, Playground Games announced Forza Horizon 4's first expansion to be Fortune Island, which takes you to the northern reaches of the British Isles and supposedly has the most extreme terrain in a Horizon game.

At the same time, Fortune Island is the biggest expansion for a Horizon game and it also happens to have the longest paved switchback road up to date, which of course means drifting galore. The expansion is expected to land on 13 December 2018.

Forza Horizon 4's chief game designer Ben Thaker-Fell said that we can expect a bunch of perilous driving conditions, with ravines and mountain clifftop roads aplenty. Don't confuse Forza Horizon 4's Fortune Island expansion to the identically named island in the Philippines though, because Playground Games are fully committed to UK, potholes and all.

Ironically enough, every mention of the Horizon franchise moving to the UK had people asking  whether there are potholes, as the game's chief creative officer Ralph Fulton mentioned earlier As you can see from the footage, if it isn't potholes, it's gravel and dirt, so yeah - we're still there alright.

Moreover, Playground have for the first time added "thunderous lightning storms and even the aurora borealis" to the fray, so as to make this already gorgeous racer even prettier. It doesn't seem like it will affect gameplay though - it'll mostly be there for show.

The company recently tooted their own horn a bit, mentioning that Forza Horizon 4 is the highest rated Xbox exclusive and best-selling racing franchise in this gen, reporting a 2 million strong playerbase after a week on the shelves. The 2 million players snapped up 74.4 million cars and drove 1.32 million kilometres since, although we're sure these numbers have grown significantly since Playground last reported them.
