Fatshark revealed a gameplay trailer for Warhammer 40K: Darktide during The Game Awards and unveiled what we can expect in the gritty future.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide is a game coming from the developers of Vermintide and Vermintide 2, which already speaks highly of the potential this game has. Then we get the gameplay trailer and that potential only goes up with some of the mechanics presented.

Vermintide games had a bit of ranged combat with bows and an occasional pistol but Warhammer 40K fans know very well the brutish weaponry of the far future where the war is perpetual and enemies of the Imperium endless.

From what we saw in the trailer, all of the four playable characters will have some sort of ranged weapon from the established universe. For example, the Imperial Guardsman has the iconic Lasgun, even though his appearance is more akin to a Kasrkin. Meanwhile, the Ogryn is using a powerful single-shot weapon that probably has limited range on top of the massive Bayonets they use for close quarters.

Besides those two, we will gain control of what appears to be an Imperial Assassin without a helmet and a hammer-wielding priest.

As for the enemies, the trailer has shown the regular day in 40K universe - we will be putting down heretics, mutants and those corrupted by the chaos, which also partially fall into the first group.

It only remains to be seen if we will get to fight Xenos like Eldar or Orcs in the future.
