Epic Games pulled all the Unreal Tournament games from the digital storefront previously and it was quickly leaked that there are plans for converting one of the games from the series into a free-to-play title with no microtransactions.
Unfortunately, the chosen game was Unreal Tournament 3, easily the least loved of the games in the series.
Even more unfortunately, now it looks like those plans have been scrapped.
The information was caught by Warrio64 who spotted the change on SteamDB listings, which previously teased Unreal Tournament X, which was supposed to be the one that would be playable between the major storefronts.
With the changed description, all mentions of the re-release plans were removed and now it just lists the features of the Titan DLC pack.
As such, any old-school fans of Unreal Tournament would probably do well to give up hope as the company has been treating the franchise like a cheap punching bag in the last few years.
That said, you can still catch some online matches in UT and UT2004, if you know where to look.
