As a major fan of the original Prince of Persia trilogy, the news that Ubisoft intends to remake the first game made me very happy indeed. However, the happiness did not last long, because from the moment the news of the Prince of Persia: The Sand of Time reboot leaked, we only received disappointments.
First, the initial images were so bad that fans reacted negatively, to put it mildly, so Ubisoft decided to start over and put the development in the hands of a very capable and experienced studio, Ubisoft Montreal, because Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai appeared to be unprepared for the task.
Even after a change in development, there was no light at the end of the tunnel, and it appeared that the remake of this 2003 classic was not meant to be. However, the most recent development may provide optimism for fans of the series. Ubisoft Toronto confirmed today on their official X account that they will join forces with Ubisoft Montreal in the development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
This might mean a lot because Ubisoft Toronto is one of the most successful and experienced Ubisoft's studios, with a plethora of great titles under their belt. When two such experienced studios join forces, the final product is poised to be good—or we hope so, at least.
However, while this may appear to be a wonderful scenario for Prince of Persia fans, fans of another Ubisoft brand, Splinter Cell, are concerned about the development. Ubisoft Toronto was in charge of the Splinter Cell remake production, and many are concerned that this means the remake will be postponed, or worse, abandoned.
In the coming months, we'll know for certain what happens and how everything ends. We can only hope for the best, which implies that both remakes will be released in due time, as many people are eagerly waiting for them, myself included.
