Valorant currently holds the top spot in the world of first-person shooter gaming, captivating both hardcore gamers and casual players alike. However, it's recently been the subject of heavy criticism due to a surge in toxic behavior among players. This toxicity encompasses hate speech and derogatory language commonly used during team interactions.
Over the past year, there's been a noticeable increase in reports of such instances within the community. Riot Games addressed these concerns on May 30, unveiling plans for significant changes to the player ban system. Let's delve into these updates.
Reports from around the globe indicate instances where players have subjected their teammates to abusive language. Consequently, many players resort to muting their teammates, leading to matches on the ranked ladder where communication is nonexistent, often resulting in losses.
How are the developers handling this?
The developers plan to tackle this issue in three steps.
Firstly, within the next 30 days or by the end of June, Riot Games will finalize updates to current policies, with a focus on implementing more significant and quicker penalties for severe in-game behavior. These changes may coincide with the release of Valorant Patch 8.11.
Secondly, Riot Games will expand the actions within the VALORANT player ban system. This will include penalties ranging from temporary suspensions to permanent bans. For the most severe cases, there will be hardware bans, though these will be reserved for extreme offenders due to their harshness.
Lastly, Riot will increase their staffing to manage the influx of player reports. This means there will be more personnel available to manually review various reports and determine their severity.
Additionally, Riot Games provided an update on the Riot Voice Evaluation System, which is currently in beta in North America and available in English. The developers have expressed their intention to expand the Riot Voice Evaluation System to other regions soon. While currently available only in English, they aim to incorporate additional regional languages in the future.
In a final move, the Valorant developers have decided to conduct a one-time review of the top suspected offenders from the previous act. This review will involve players reported in Acts 7 and 8, and appropriate penalties will be issued based on their behavior.
