Looking for a CRPG but can't commit to paying the price of Pillars of Eternity? You might just enjoy some Tower of Time which is for some reason one of the most overlooked games at the turn of the decade as it is free for the taking on GOG.
You can pick up Towers of Time for no charge on GOG which is quite awesome since it's also DRM-free. You can truly own a game in the age of digital purchases, at no charge. Unlike other free picks, this one may look tricky at first glance due to included marketing but it's nothing too serious.
To grab Towers of Time, follow the link to the GOG store page where you can click on "Go to giveaway". Now, this will send you to what looks like the regular store page with featured offers such as 70 per cent off on The Witcher 3. Just scroll down past the paid games and you will run into a horizontally stretched Towers of Time banner that has a countdown on it.
There you can click on the "Get it Free" button on the banner and the game will be added to your GOG account. Make sure you are logged in if you are getting the free title through a browser.
The offer will stand until 15:00 CET on 1 January 2020 so you have plenty of time to pick the game up. Despite the pretty graphics, Towers of Time doesn't have massive system requirements as GTX 770 is among the recommended GPUs. Similarly, it's just an i5 CPU that you need to meet the recommended specification.
As for the game itself, it is by all means worth playing, especially if you are into CRPG. The game features real-time combat with tactical pause, not unlike that found in Dragon Age series but it also has a way to slow time down instead of outright stopping it.
Event Horizon are preparing for the launch of their next game, Dark Envoy, which will be available in 2020.
