ESRB has given The Division 2 an M for Mature rating which warns of blood, intense violence, drug references and strong language. The rating summary also mentions drug labs, hammer kills and drug kitchen graffiti written on some walls.
Ubisoft's upcoming looter shooter will be one violent game according to the Entertainment Software Rating Board or ESRB website. The Division 2 is rated M for Mature, same as the original game.
What's interesting in ESRB's summary is the mention of some of the locations which will appear in the game. Players will go through drug labs which produce a fictional drug named Spice and will run into drug-making paraphernalia on the streets of Washington. Some building will also have "drug kitchen" writings on them.
It's unclear if these locations and drugs will be connected to the game's story or maybe one of the game's factions. Of course, drug labs and drug kitchen labels are likely to be just one of many buildings and graffiti in the game, and the Spice drug just a simple story filler. As of now, the developers didn't reveal any info about potential story missions which could take players to these places.
Additionally, the rating summary mentioned instances of intense violence with close headshots and one restrained character struck repeatedly with a hammer but mostly off-screen. That sounds like a pretty nasty torture scene similar to one from GTA V. It could become a talking point once the game is out just like Rockstar's game was back in 2013.
The Division 2's rating also warns concerned individuals about realistic gunfire, cries of pain and blood splatter effects which is something that we already saw and heard in the last game, so no real surprise there. Of course, the game was never light on violence and falls in the same bucket as the majority of other realistic shooters like Call of Duty and Battlefield which are also rated M.
Ubisoft
The Division 2 will follow its predecessor closely at least when it comes to a violent and realistic representations of modern combat. It looks like it may take things a bit further with some nasty scenes but we'll have to wait a bit more to see if the game deserved its M rating.
