The Division 2 has hit all sorts of milestones in 2020 and Ubisoft are planning an even better 2021. The next update apparently brings a brand new mode, as well as new ways to progress your agents, but - there's a kicker.
In terms of staff changes, Ubisoft will bringing in their Bucharest studio to work on The Divison 2 content in 2021. That said, Adrian Trasca and Yanick Bancherau will remain in their roles of producer and associate creative director.
As for The Division 2 content, however, you can expect "a game mode that is entirely new to the franchise" to be landing in the next major update.
"Along with the game mode, we are investigating new ways to progress your agent with an emphasis on increasing build variety and viability. We will be revealing more about what lies ahead as the update gets closer", they wrote.
And now for the kicker - the update they're referring to will take several months to complete, though, so don't expect any major updates until late 2021.
Moreover, the coming months will not see any new The Division 2 content added as Ubisoft get to developing the aforementioned update.
What this means for The Division 2 is that instead of getting a fresh new season in Season 5, they will be playing a re-run of Season 1. Ubisoft stressed that there will be regular Leagues and Global Events for players to participate as usual.
The Division 2 will still be getting support with new Apparel Events and minor title updates focused on game health, but other than that - they'll mostly be stuck in S1 autopilot.
Well, it's certainly mixed news, and it will be interesting to see how The Division 2 community takes this.
