The forums of Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord have been abuzz with discussions on the game. Some players say the developers delivered, while others that they are merely riding the coattails of Warband.
To each, their own is a saying that can be best used in these kinds of situations. However, the patch notes paint a bleak picture of the game overall. It has been out for quite some time, but the hotfixes being implemented are not focused on some niche situations, but mechanics that keep the game itself running.
Changes to single-player mode can be summed up as "changed crashing cause". No less than eight distinct reasons the game crashes have been fixed, and the sad part is, this patch is just one in a long line of patches fixing the crashes.
- Fixed a crash that occurred when a caravan got items with modifiers.
- Fixed a crash that occurred when attempting a prison break.
- Fixed a crash that occurred due to a bug that caused the player clan to be kicked out of a kingdom randomly.
- Fixed a crash that occurred when clicking the encyclopedia link of bandit clans on the journal page of the “Destroy Raiders” quest.
As can be seen, by these examples, crashes are caused by basic game mechanics, meaning that the game itself is unable to function properly, much less as intended. Players playing feel as if they are walking on eggshells when doing anything, fearing the game crashing.
Multiplayer as well is in a similar state. Crashes abound, and adding a new game mode will certainly not help matters. On the modding side, TaleWorlds seem to have realized modders are the only ones capable of saving their trainwreck of a game, in the same way, they elevated Warband from a simple game to a cult classic.
