Coronavirus continues to wreak havoc on all organised conventions and events, including the upcoming Summer Games Done Quick, which will once again assume an online form.
Gaming events have largely become online-only over the course of 2020 and it seems like 2021 will continue that way for the time being. Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) 2021 was meant to run in-person this year but that will not be the case as the organisers announced that safety comes first and this is why we will be watching the speedrunning extravaganza exclusively over the internet.
SGDQ 2021 will commence on July 4, 2021, and will run for seven days before the closing ceremony and the final donation tally are through. As per usual, you will be able to watch it on GDQ's Twitch channel which will also be raising money for charity through donations. Other than that, the exact schedule is currently unknown but it will be revealed at a later date.
In case you are looking to participate with a speedrun of your own, you can place your own submission for SGDQ 2021 by April 11. The registration process will go through the GDQ website .
While unfortunate, the decision not to endanger a large group of people is completely understandable. Having hundreds of individuals crammed into a closed space would be fertile ground for a pandemic hotspot, which would undoubtedly cause ripples across the world.
