Puddlegate couldn't stop the success of Spider-Man as the title has managed to sell 3.3 million copies in the first three days in physical and digital stores. This broke the in-house title sales record previously held by God of War.

Sony have a habit of placing massive marketing budgets on the titles exclusive to PlayStation 4, especially when it comes to first party games like God of War and Spider-Man. This strategy seems to have yielded huge returns as God of War was the fastest selling in-house title with 3.1 million copies sold in the first three days, overtaking Naughty Dog's Uncharted which previously held the record with 2.7 million copies in the first seven days.

To say Kratos slammed Nathan Drake into the ground would be an understatement but it appears that his gloriously bearded reign has come to an end as the record was once again broken mere months later.

The beardless Peter Parker suited up, deleted some puddles in the final release of his game and proceeded to sell a staggering 3.3 million copies in the first three days since launch. Insomniac's staff are probably unable to read the any news at this point as they are likely wasted from celebrating.

According to Stephen Turvey, PlayStation's global senior vice president of sales, Spider-Man has "met and exceeded all expectations" at which point did some calculations which point out the fact that Spider-Man game has crushed Spider-Man: Homecoming movie when it comes to revenue with $198 versus $117 million.

The numbers are a bit rough around the edges since Sony included the Spider-Man PS4 Pro bundle in the total sales numbers, but it doesn't really subtract much from that massive revenue as it took PlayStation 4 about five years to sell 80 million copies in total.

When all is said and done, it makes one wonder how much of that revenue is actual profit due to Sony shelling out money like there is no tomorrow when it comes to marketing.
