With slightly more than three weeks until Marvel's web slinger hits the shelves, Sony and Insomniac Games have unleashed a gameplay trailer for the new Spider-Man and it looks and feels every bit deserving of a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
I'm saying every bit deserving since Spider-Man will have to compete with several Sony's in-house games, many of them arguably being the sort of masterpieces that inadvertently leave an indelible mark on an entire console generation. As you can see though, Spider-Man is ready to give 'em all a run for their money.
Well, more like a swing for their money as Insomniacs appear to have done an exquisite job in making Spidey's traversing of New York a spectacular affair. Granted most of the trailer are cutscenes and scripted stuff but the few occasional in-game flashes really seem amazing, like the one I've giffed below. I don't even know why but I simply must replicate that.
Plenty of Marvel's roster of baddies are in the trailer as well, including Shocker, Vulture, Rhino and even a brief appearance by Kingpin and that's scratching the surface of what the final game is supposed to deliver. In short you can bet your behind there will be no drum circles and Kumbayas around campfires - Spider-Man is out to hurt. And crack wise-ass jokes of course.
Having said that, Insomniac went for a slightly more mature version of Peter Parker, even though you wouldn't be able to tell from his Spidey-conduct. The new Spider-Man is finishing up with college and at the age of 23 already has 8 years of experience as the defender of New York. Pretty good deal for New York if you ask me - I don't recall the comics mentioning the Big Apple paying him medical.
Insomniac
Anyway, Spider-Man by Insomniac Games is coming out on 07 September 2018 and being a PlayStation 4 exclusive, the Master Race, Xboxers and Switcheroos will have to watch from the sidelines. The dev will be adding more characters at a later date, as well as the City That Never Sleeps DLC.
