The developer Ys Net have officially closed the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for Shenmue 3 which has reached more than 7 million from 80k backers. The news was shared along with the release date and system requirements for PC.
After three years in development and Kickstarter crowdfunding, Shenmue 3 is getting closer to release as the developer Ys Net announce numbers behind the successful fan backing.
The final numbers for the funding are totals from both Kickstarter and Ys Net's own campaign and they count up to $7,179,510 which puts Shenmue 3 on the list of top 50 highest funded projects ever.
Shenmue's numbers also mean that the initial target of $2,000,000 was easily reached as more than 80,000 backers helped the development of Ys Net's upcoming action-adventure game.
Back in December 2017, that goal was reached just eight hours after the campaign went live and $1,000,000 was raised in an hour and 44 minutes which made Shenmue 3 the fastest game ever to raise that amount of money through crowdfunding.
However, the series creator Yu Suzuki has earlier confirmed that for "a true open-world game" the campaign would have to reach more than $10,000,000 but he wouldn't be disappointed with smaller figure and would "make what he can within the budget."
Well, it did not reach the numbers he was hoping for and it will be interesting to see what kind of "true open-world game" can Suzuki create "within the budget".
We're now less than ten months away from the release of Shenmue 3 which will comes on 27 August 2019 for PC and PlayStation 4.
Ys Net have also revealed the official minimum system requirements for the game but have noted they may change during the development. You can check them below.
