Ys Net and Deep Silver are in midst of controversy once more with the long-awaited and thrice-delayed game Shenmue 3, and fans who backed them on Kickstarter are not at all happy over being denied the content from the Deluxe Edition.
Shenmue 3's Kickstarter backers recently received notification from Ys Net and Deep Silver, informing them that any extra items and content in the game's Standard and Deluxe versions have nothing to do with the crowdfunded edition, as these are solely retail oriented.
"Standard and deluxe versions released through retail sales are not affiliated with the crowdfunding campaign, so will not be included with backer pledges, however, they will be available for sale separately. Kickstarter Backers will receive the Kickstarter version, Slacker Backers will receive the Slacker Backer version. Both have unique content respective to their versions not available in the retail versions", they wrote in the mail.
They also reminded that Shenmue 3's season pass will not be part of the Kickstarter version, as it was never part of the crowdfunding deal, and while it all seems to be exactly as was agreed, this is where things get a bit complicated.
Shenmue 3's Deluxe Edition, which goes for $74.99 on the PlayStation Store, comes with the full game and DLC Pass including the complete post-launch DLC content and the 'Burning Sandstorm' Advanced Technique Scroll, as well as the legendary Ryo's Flight Jacket.
As you'd expect, backers who shelled out for $160+ and $250+ editions to see their beloved game finished, and then persisted through three delays and Deep Silver's famous last-minute switcheroo to the Epic Games Store, were left wondering why they're being denied content.
Many of them feel that $75 for the Deluxe Edition in many ways trumps what they're getting for their patience and sticking with Shenmue 3 through thick and thin.
Backers are also wondering when the trial version of Shenmue 3 will be out, but Ys Net wrote, "Trial version release date info has yet to be confirmed and will be announced in the updates when details are available. You will be receiving your trial version, but we must ask for your patience for a little longer."
