Game director Daniel Chayer-Bisson introduced the trailer you see above, claiming that the brutal jungle environment will force her to use every possible strategy to win. He added that they call this "being one with the jungle" and you'd be hard pressed to disagree as Lara's new gig allows for some delicious stealth play.
Silent takedowns, bow and arrow shooting, parkour and climbing skills that Assassin's Creed wouldn't be ashamed off - it increasingly looks as Lara is in for her most brutal appearance in Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
I must admit the camera work is pretty exquisitely done - plenty of action reinforcing shaking without being confusing. I'm sure we'll soon see some detailed analyses, like in the case of God of War. In case you missed that, it turned out that direction and timing of camera shakes when Kratos is pummelling his opponents makes a world of difference in relaying the, ahem, weight of the situation.
The game will have new means for traversing the map, such as grappling hooks and wall running. This will not only be handy but necessary since Chayer-Bisson claims that Shadow of the Tomb Raider has the biggest in-game world from all the earlier games in the franchise, with more tombs, challenges and baddies than ever before.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider's developer is particularly proud of the underwater gameplay and quite rightfully so as it already looks delicious. Achieving fluent movement in simulating underwater settings is one of the design difficulties that either sacrifices controllability or appearance, making the new Lara all the more impressive, even more so with the takedowns.
Much has been said about the fact that Shadow of the Tomb Raider's launch may be negatively affected by Spider-Man, which launches on 07 September 2018, a week before Lara, but Chayer-Bisson says he's not worried about that. He thinks that both games will coexist and as lead writer Jill Murray said, "only one game has Lara Croft".
