Sea of Thieves hits new player milestone

It has really been smooth sailing for Sea of Thieves lately, as producer Joe Neate announced the swashbuckling adventure hitting 15 million players since launch.

It sounds a bit awkward saying this but 2020 has been pretty great for Sea of Thieves. Rare's launch on Steam played a big part in making June officially the most successful month yet.  

"The way that the game and its community has continued to grow has been amazing to see. It was only in January of this year when we shared that 10 million people had played the game! We’re also humbled that more people have played Sea of Thieves in the first six months of 2020 than who played in the whole of 2019, which was more than 2018", Neate said. 

Sea of Thieves has already passed the 1-million copies sold on Steam, which is quite the feat but still a fraction of the game's total growth in June. In fact, a total of 3.3 million new pirates set sail during the month. 

For all of Rare's transparency in development, as well as clearly defined roadmap, Sea of Thieves Initially faced some criticism over the lack of content. Thankfully, this notion sounds like it was a lifetime ago, as it's been a while since we've last heard anyone mention not having enough stuff to do in-game, quite rightfully so.

And if Neate is to be believed, and he is, there's much more to come. "On behalf of all of us at Rare, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who’s ever played Sea of Thieves for helping to get us this far. It’s a game that we love making, and there’s plenty more to come. See you on the seas", he wrote.
