Rare's latest update has some great news for dog lovers - Sea of Thieves is finally getting doggies in September and yes, you can pet them but you don't want to hang around for all their behaviours.
Rare announced the news in their gameplay update on Gamescom 2020 and via Twitter, where they wrote, "Woof woof! Just announced at Gamescom 2020, good boys and girls of various breeds will be able to join you on the Sea of Thieves for scritches and hugs with our next content update! Please act surprised."
They're saying that because Sea of Thieves already has cats so it was just a matter of time before they added doggos. And let's face it - dogs are better. Yeah, I said it.
Of course, the September update for Sea of Thieves isn't just about dogs, as Rare also announced a new voyage type for Gold Hoarders and permanent addition to the voyage choices. Unfortunately, they didn't share more but they will soon.
Sea of Thieves executive producer Joe Neate said that Steam players make between 20 and 30 per cent of the playerbase. While they're quite delighted with this, they're even more excited over cross-play and the opportunities it provides for live events.
In fact, Neate said he's convinced that 2021 will be the best one in Sea of Thieves yet. He mentioned they get a lot of questions about other platforms, but stressed that cross-play is an essential requirement before they branch out anywhere else.
Sea of Thieves' August update was a bit light due to the pandemic disruptions finally taking their toll on the dev team, but it should be business as usual from September onwards. Now bring on the packs of dogs!
