Rare's latest announcement for Sea of Thieves is actually about Battletoads, their resurrected brainchild, and Rare prepared some complimentary cosmetics.
In case you're not familiar with Battletoads, they're Rare's beat 'em up whose career started in 1991 in response to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or as Rick would say - a legally safe knockoff of a 90s character.
Today's launch of the new Battletoads, which is handled by Dlala Studios, couldn't go without the Rare touch. So, Sea of Thieves players who complete the first act of Battletoads gets themed cosmetics for their ship.
"Anyone who finishes Act One of the raucous multi-genre adventure, at any time, will be able to festoon their ship with a family of fighting frogs! Or are they toads? We hear it's a wart thing", they wrote.
Unfortunately, most of the August update for Sea of Thieves will be reserved for bug fixes and quality of life improvements. In Rare's defence, there's a good reason behind the decision, as the pandemic rearrangements took their toll.
"As we came off the back of our July release, we had an opportunity to assess our planned set of features for August – and it quickly became apparent that everything was coming in a little hot.
Since we started working from home, we've definitely had to be a bit more flexible with our plans for each month, and as such we've decided to move our key planned features back to our September release", Rare wrote.
Note that this means there will be no Pirate Emporioum refresh in this update either.
