SCUMmunity members rejoice - the new SCUM patch is upon us and it brings significant lag improvements, new master server for faster list browsing, two new weapons, a new fire system mechanic, some quality of life changes and bug fixes.
Gamepires may have dragged this update on a bit but the lag improvements alone should be worth it, as they found a way to lower the servers' awareness of frequently repeated assets and gained "a massive boost, up to 5x faster."
The team turned to "cutting edge deep network machine learning methods for network replication IoT applications" to pull it off, or so they wrote, but either way, you should expect less lag, which is always good news.
SCUM's arsenal is now richer for two weapons, first of which is the M1891 bolt-action rifle. It can be found in military areas and uses 7.62x54mmR cartridges, with a magazine size of 5.
The second one is the Eder 22 pistol, which uses 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge and is found in military and police areas. Gamepires advises finding a magazine though, otherwise you might as well use a flint gun.
SCUM's cooking is apparently being reworked along with a few other features, starting with how fires work. Gamepires added a new mechanic where you can keep feeding the fire so it doesn't go out and there are plans to have clearly visible cues for fire intensity, with the states of fire impacting cooking in the future.
Note that there's a 120-minute cap on fire duration and although different items will add different amounts of additional burning time, it's a hard cap so you can't have a fire longer than 120 minutes whatever you do.
Last but not least of the notable features is the continental church, which can now be fortified. We guess it's only a matter of time before we get a Hunchback of Notre SCUM, eh?
